Sunday is Funday

Sunday is a Funday - Best day when we were studying.. Sunday was the only day when we used to visit our relatives or they come over.. have some special menu .. everyone at home.. playing.. enjoying.. getogethers.. and TELEVISION programmes..

Well i told you i was a tele bug.. every program i used to watch .. day started at 6:30am ( im not sure the time though) .. first thing my brain wants to do is switch On the tele.. slowly programmes follow.. first of them is Chitrahaar .. Listen to all those tunes.. then go and brush teeth.. again back on bed to watch surabhi ..then my brothers favourite He-Man the Power of Universe.. i think the programmes used to continue till afternoon... then have our lunch.. my parents used to take rest.. still i am in no mood to sleep so i used to watch .. 1pm News .. then follows the regional movie.. i used to sit and read the sub script and follow the movie.. hehe.. after the movie .. i used to go in the backyard garden and check if the plants which i have sown are okay.. and water them properly again(if it is Summer) .. then go into the kitchen to search for some sweeties.. if i managed to find one then i will eat if not i used to eat BOURNVITA or HORLICKS or SUGAR .. whatever i can get hold off... then in the evenings .. someone used to visit us... then play with them in the front garden .. after they left.. i will start complaining about some pain in the chest or brain .. hehe so that it will be easy to convince my mom that i cant attend school as i was having pain since sunday .. not just startedout of blue.. hehe..

omg .. i wonder how my brain worked then.. hillarious when i think of it now..

Summer holidays

Summers - i love summer.. clothes dry quickly.. we get to eat mangoes.. milkshakes.. coconut water.. afternoons we used to carve for ice lollies .. i remember very well in one summer holidays .. my uncle and aunt from delhi came to visit our place ... they stayed in our house for couple of weeks.. my mom was busy with her last brother wedding preparations so most of the time she was away from home.. so my aunt and uncle used to be at home.. like baby sitting for us .. whenever ice lolly guy used to shout "Ice Cream .. Ice Cream" ...every 2 mins interval time.. we used to jump.. thinking that someone will buy for us.. becoz my aunt was at home.. we cried in front of her and she melted.. she called that ice lolly guy and bought 2 lollies for us.. she paid to him and he left.. next day again we heard his shouting "Ice Cream.. Ice cream" .. again we started jumping.. my aunty knew that we were going to annoy her so she called him and brought lollies but this time she told that lolly guy to come later to collect money as my mom was away.. she kindly agreed and left.. it conitnued for 3 days.. every day we were looking for afternoons... then my aunty and uncle left to delhi ..

Now comes the story to unfold.. this ice lolly guy came the next day and knocked at our door.. my mom opened and asked him whats the matter.. he said.. where is the other madam who brought lollies for past 3 days.. my mom said im the owner here and there is no other madam .. he said.. she brought few lollies from me and promised me to pay today.. he pointed at us and said.. these kids were eating lollies .. please ask them .. my turned around and asked what happend and we told that aunt brought us lollies and we ate..

My mom asked the amount and paid that guy but she was so very annoyed with my aunt did that as those days money was very precious .. ladies used to save money to buy gold or sarees for special occasions.. she had to shell out some money from that .. hehe.. but at the end of the story.. We had lovely time eating those lolliess...... aha...

Panchatantra Tales - The Mice and The Elephant

Ahh these are only few stories .. we used to share books with our friends as we wanted to read new stories .. we were group of friends and had a good collection of books .. so kept on exchanging .. i used to read while eating and when something fell on the story book i used to get worried as what my friend will think and used to ask my mom to buy a new one so that my friend doesnt feel bad.. hehe.. but who is going to listen to me .. but i had lovely friends.. they used to say "thats ok" ..

Friends are wonderful ..

Panchatantra Tales - The Talkative Tortoise

Summer Holidays.. Best holidays as we were at home .. playing in the front garden or climging trees or stealing mangoes from our neighbours tree.. we were at home in the afternoons as it was very hot to play outside.. so to keep us engaged our parents used to buy story books for us.. like panchatantra series.. enjoyed reading the books in the afternoon... i used to explain the stories to my little brother .. my brother used to have a difficulty of writing D and B letter.. He always used to write for BAD as DAB .. hehe ... i used to tease him and he used to get annoyed with me..

lovely experiences we had together ..

Doordarshan Advertisements - Liril Ad

Ahh.. Liril soap .. what you want me to say .. after this advert everyone purchased liril soap.. so did we .. green color soap bar .. but these soap bars used to finish very quickly and people used to complain in my colony .. those were the topics ladies used to chat in the evenings standing outside the houses...

Doordarshan Advertisements - Gold Spot

Ahh .. Gold Spot Zing Thing.. hehe.. i used to enjoy drinking gold spot wow.. i used to sing this song whenever i wanted to drink goldspot and my used to know that i want it .. if she ignored me i used to sleep on the group no matter if it is home or outisde (shopping malls , vegetable markets).. i was literally on the ground and she had to buy for me .. (Tantrums).. my poor mama never used to say anything to me.. that is why i became so stubborn ..

Doordarshan Advertisements - Bajaj

I have grown watching these advertisements..

Doordarshan Iconic Video

Remember this .. This is doordarshan.. i still remember those days when i used to sit in front of the television at 5:30pm for it to start.. i was so very hooked to television then .. in our colony very few people owned televisions one among them was us.. so people used to come to our house to watch movies.. just imagine .. 20 ppl sitting in one room and few sitting outside on chairs as they cant sit down.. few watching through the window rails (outsiders) ..it was full of energy .. people used to get together.. ladies used to cook early so that they can watch the movie with family and friends.. after the movie people used to chat for sometime and then leave .. Those were wonderful days when i used to enjoy watching harikatha on television and sunday afternoon regional languages movies.. hehe ..

My childhood

I was like any other child .. mischievious.. I always used to fight with my brother .. now i miss him loads as he is in a different continent and so am i ..

when i was a child.. i always used to ask my mom itseems that i will help in washing clothes and i used to cry if she dint let me do it .. so she used to give me handkerchief hehe.. well i was helpful then but i dont if i am really helpful to her now as i am away from her :/

I started helping my mom when i was 4years old.. we used to live in a colony .. small colony.. parrallel to our road they used to be a milkman booth.. since i want to help my mom i used to carry a small basket to the booth everyday and collect the milk packet(250ml) and return home.. those were the days when my parents never feared of sending me out early in the morning around 6:30am to collect milk packet.. people knew who was who and always kept an eye like "Neghbourwood Watch" ..at present i am not sure if any parent will send their child alone ..

My Special Mom

My Mom - We are Santoshi Maa(goddess) Devotees.. My mom did santoshii maa(goddess) prayers for 20 years.. later she had to discontinue due to health reasons..

Since childhood we have been praying Goddess Santoshi .. praying for good health, wealth and knowledge.. because of my mom's prayers... my brother and myself are settled..

My Aunt

From childhood my aunt is a devotee of PANDURANGA Devotee and my Uncle was VENKATESHWARA(GOD).

My Aunt became Sathya Sai devotee and She had troubles with My Uncle as she used to do
*nagarasankeethanalu*(Early morning prayers to Swami).. Later my uncle also became Swami devotee.

My aunty was like Bhakt Meera Bhai( great devotee of Sri krishna).. faced problems at home but continued to pray swami and now she is residing in parthinilayam.

Attukula kesari - Lord krishna(Panduranga) - Fav dish

Attukulu(Poha or Rice flakes or Aval) is the favourite food for lord Krishna.

Ingredients:
Attukulu(Poha, Rice flakes, Aval) - 1 cup
Sugar - 1 1/2 cup
Ghee - 1/3 cup
Water - 2 cups
Cardamom - 4
Orange food colour - a pinch
Cashews
Raisins

How to make it:
Fry Attukulu in little ghee until it turns light brown. Add 2 cups water to it and cook until the aval becomes soft and well cooked. Now add sugar, cardamom powder and food colour and mix it thoroughly. Add ghee little and cook until it thickens. Head 2 tsp ghee in a small pan, fry the cashews and raisins and add it to the kesari. Mix well. Decorate with a pinch of saffron on top for a great flavour.

Pandurangadi Flowers Pallaki

My maternal grandfather's brother's daughter was a great devotee of PANDURANGA.. From childhood she used to recite mantras and was very simple.. She never wore clothes which are expensive as she used to say that clothes are there to cover body..

She was never intrested in marriage but she has to obey parents wish and got married and later delivered a baby child.. after she delivered a girl child .. middle of the night she asked her mother to recite a ABHANGAM ( PANDURANGA MANTRA) .. the same one as when Bhakth THUKARAM went in a flowers pallaki .. Her mother starting reciting the Mantras and her daughter kept telling that pallaki is coming .. After she finished and went to tell her daugther that it is over.. she was no more in this world.. we all think that even she left to god in that flowers pallaki.

This song will tell you how Bhakhta Thukaram reached god.

Panduranga devotees

My maternal grandfather's brother's wife was a great devotee of PADURANGA.. I will tell you how she became his devotee..
She always wanted a guru .. she always use to say "rama rama" Non stop sadhana(Prayers) .. Apparently their neighbours also complained to police saying she is making loud noises ..

One day a friend visiter her house and showed her DADA MAHARAJ( Guru ) photo.. She immediately liked the guru and left to Pandaripur. She then continued praying Panduranga and lead a pious life.

Later on, even our maternal grandparents became PANDURANGA devotees and most of the kids( my uncle, aunts) have Panduraga Devotees names.

My Grandfather and Grandmother

Grandfather - What do you want me to write about my grandfather .. when i was a child i lost him but my mom and relatives say that he was a true gentleman and very honest person.

Grandmother - She was born in Sravana Masam (August) on auspicious Varalakshmi(Indian goddess festival) day. She had 14 kids and she loved cooking and feeding kids.. Very helping nature.
